Every year thousands of youths are placed in SiS (The National Board of Institutional Care) homes in Sweden.
SiS runs special residential homes for young people, which receive people with psychosocial problems, substance abuse and criminal behaviour. According to Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRÅ, 2012), as much as 80% of these youths returns to a life of crime and substance abuse within 3 years.
“Ung inlåst” is a non-profit project run by Skyddsvärnet with the goal that all youth placed in a SiS home should be aware of their rights and know about the opportunities they have for treatment and education. ”Ung inlåst” goal is for the youths to feel that they are taken seriously, listened to and strengthen their faith in society and government/authority.
